WINTER IN PUERTO RICO

In the middle of a rather brutal New York City winter, I decided to book a last-minute ticket to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I wanted sweat drops gliding down my back while painting the glorious Caribbean water and to forget about the snow mounds reshaping the layout of my neighborhood's streets... and I got just what I wanted.
These paintings were made in a condensed time period--five days--in a place I'd never seen before, much less had the time to scout for motifs as I normally would. No matter! I was hungry for plein air painting and attacked the canvas from sunrise to sunset, following the sun as it thawed me and my frozen self out. In a short time, I found two beaches that I loved and explored the wonderful Viejo San Juan, filled with movement and architecture: both sea and city, playing off of each other in a rather lovely way.
I feel, truly, that these paintings from San Juan are only the beginning of a relationship with this beautiful island. Thank you for taking the time to look; I hope you feel the peace and warmth that I felt while there, too.
