SUMMER IN LE SUD: Mt St Victoire from le Terrain de Peintres, July 11, no. 1
Le Terrain des Peintres—”field of painters”—was one of the places around Aix-en-Provence where Cezanne often painted, very close to his studio, and I set myself up there to make a couple of paintings one day. Art-loving tourists passed by alongside local neighbors walking dogs and it felt like a rather lovely place to spend an afternoon, particularly knowing that one of the great masters of all time often painted in this very spot!
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 16”x20”; overall size framed is approx 17”x21”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
