SUMMER IN LE SUD: La Presqu'île looking west, Cassis, July 15
La Presqu’île is quite far into Cassis, roundabout many curvy turns, and a favorite motif for me in the morning. The water is so cool in the morning and I’d dry off in the sun before starting on a painting. This piece is of a view I’ve painted many time, but in a larger scale than normal; the larger scale meant that I needed to work more quickly, with a clear mind and surety in decision-making, to be able to finish the painting before the sunlight changed too drastically, which leads to more intuition taking over, a true learning process and very important part to my practice.
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 16”x20”; overall size framed is approx 17”x21”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
