SUMMER IN LE SUD: Lac de la Bonde from the sand, July 10

$850.00

Lac de la Bonde is a manmade lake about 30 minutes from Aix-en-Provence and a favorite outing with the Leo Marchutz School each summer. The water is this beautiful blue and it’s a local spot with lots of families and not very touristy. I paint in the morning, break for lunch, and make another painting in the afternoon. This is the afternoon painting, painted on the sand by the water, and halfway through a friend brought me a soft serve ice cream cone. Brushes in one hand, cone in the other, I had no choice but to eat it as fast as I could… but still the ice cream dripped and dripped in the hot sun! The drips should have come off of the painting (after a bit of clean-up), but a forensics report might show a curious combination of dairy and sugar on there somewhere… that’s how you know it’s real :)

This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.

Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 12”x16”; overall size framed is approx 13”x17”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
