SUMMER IN LE SUD: La Presqu'île looking west, Cassis, July 21
A typical morning as an artist-in-residence in Aix-en-Provence involves throwing the windows open, sipping a cup of black tea while reading poetry and a devotional, and popping down to the market before driving to this wonderful beach. I dream of this beach all year long! When I arrive in the morning, I am often the only one there, and I immediately dive in to the cool water, dry off on a sunny slab of rock, and start painting. By the time I’m really getting into the painting, the beach has filled up and I’m able to include the bathers as they lounge, sit, stand, dive, wade, tread around. This painting in particular has some great poses; zoom in!
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 14”x22”; overall size framed is approx 15”x23”. This is a diptych of two 11”x14” canvases framed together as one; they were painted together as if one canvas and are meant to stay together, not separated. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
Please note: this painting was incorrectly labeled in the preview. The size and price listed here are correct.
