SUMMER IN LE SUD: The sunset chez Jill, July 15
SUMMER IN LE SUD: The sunset chez Jill, July 15
A friend and fellow painter, Jill Steenhuis, has a beautiful olive grove by her home, and a favorite evening this summer was going out for a sunset painting through the olive trees after dinner. The sun was setting in the most incredible colors and I had to paint so quickly to grab it all before it was gone. Working like this, where intuition takes over conscious thought, is a very important part of my practice. I can look back at the painting later and learn from it, but the flow state of working without overthinking is so special and really, to me, where the magic happens.
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 11”x14”; overall size framed is approx 12”x15”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
