SUMMER IN LE SUD: Sunflowers on the way to Rognes, July 27, no. 1
SUMMER IN LE SUD: Sunflowers on the way to Rognes, July 27, no. 1
The sunflowers in the south of France (le Sud) stretch out as far as the eye can see, it seems, and I’ve been wanting to paint them for ages but hadn’t had the chance until this summer. Rognes is a town about 30 minutes from Aix; this field is in between Aix and Rognes and I just parked out of the way and set up and began painting. Two other painter friends were close by working, too; I love having that community while painting in the summer in Aix.
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 11”x14”; overall size framed is approx 12”x15”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
