SUMMER IN LE SUD: Le Pont du Gard, July 7, no. 2

$850.00

This ancient aqueduct was made by the Romans around 30 AD… yes, really! And it still stands! Imposing is an understatement. I first went to le Pont du Gard—”the bridge of the Gard,” referring to the Gardon River flowing beneath—in the summer of 2024 and knew I must return. So I did! I have a favorite little rock that juts out into the river and has a bit of shade and I painted as the kayakers—hundreds of kayakers!—floated merrily (loudly, often) along. It’s not particularly close to Aix-en-Provence, about 1.5 hours, but makes for a feasible day trip. This is one of two paintings made that day.

This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.

Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 12”x16”; overall size framed is approx 13”x17”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
