SUMMER IN LE SUD: La Presqu'île looking east, Cassis, July 15
SUMMER IN LE SUD: La Presqu'île looking east, Cassis, July 15
This beach is a favorite motif for the morning, deep into Cassis with lots of windy roads and quite quiet in the morning before the daredevil teenagers start jumping off this very cliffside that I’ve painted. The first time I heard the SPLAT of a body hitting the water I nearly jumped out of my skin… until I realized that it was very much on purpose and the noise would continue until the sun went down that night. It’s good, clean fun, jumping from a cliff into the Mediterranean, and I love the thrill that the teens have as well as the true joy that it brings those sitting nd watching from the safety of solid ground below. This painting is of that scene, two boys swimming after having jumped in.
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 12”x16”; overall size framed is approx 13”x17”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
