SUMMER IN LE SUD: Mt St Victoire from le Tholonet, July 17
La Montagne Sainte-Victoire is an imposing, beautiful mountain outside of Aix-en-Provence and a pride of the region. The master impressionist painter Paul Cezanne, who lived in Aix for most of his life and painted en plein air (outside, from life), loved the mountain and painted it many, many times… and so have I! This view, from le Tholonet outside of Aix, is particularly special as Cezanne also frequented this spot. Quite humbling to paint from the same place as the father of modern art, but I nestled amongst the trees and peeked through their branches to see this mountain view.
This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.
Original oil painting on canvas. Painting size 16”x20”; overall size framed is approx 17”x21”. This painting comes framed in a natural oak floating frame and is ready to hang.
