SUMMER IN LE SUD: Cannes, July 9, no. 1

from $325.00

Cannes is along la Côte d’Azur, that famed stretch of sandy beaches beloved by vacationers for ages (Fitzgerald and Hemingway included). A dear friend of mine grew up nearby and happened to be visiting his parents at the same time I was in Aix, so I popped down the coast for a visit. I’d just painted in sunny Antibes in the morning and stopped by Cannes again to have lunch on the beach and made two more paintings that afternoon; this is one of them. And would you believe me if I told you that this family in the foreground—with the squirmy children who were nearly impossible to catch on the page!—went to my own alma mater (the University of Virginia)?? It’s true!!

This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.

Original watercolor on paper with straight edges; unframed size 11”x14”.

If you’d like to have this framed, please select that option from the drop-down menu and check out. I’ll then email you with mock-ups of the painting in a few frame options that I recommend. Framed size approx 15x19 inches; please allow an additional three weeks for framing.

USPS First-Class shipping is free for the continental USA.

Merci for choosing to have a piece of my summertime on your walls!
