SUMMER IN LE SUD: Lavender in le Tholonet, June 30, no. 2

from $325.00

Le Tholonet is a town outside of Aix-en-Provence by about 20 minutes; one might call it an Aixoise suburb. The master painting Cezanne himself once lived in le Tholonet and painted many masterpieces there, and it has a lively restaurant next to the pétanque terrains. A little farther past the pétanque are lavender fields, and, lucky me, the gorgeous purple flowers hadn’t been cut yet. I woke early and went to the fields two mornings in a row to paint, catching the fields just before they were harvested. Sitting in the shade and breathing in the lavender fragrance in the early morning with hardly a soul around… it’s a good life.

This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.

Original watercolor on paper with straight edges; unframed size 11”x14”.

If you’d like to have this framed, please select that option from the drop-down menu and check out. I’ll then email you with mock-ups of the painting in a few frame options that I recommend. Framed size approx 15x19 inches; please allow an additional three weeks for framing.

USPS First-Class shipping is free for the continental USA.

Merci for choosing to have a piece of my summertime on your walls!
