SUMMER IN LE SUD: Lavender in le Tholonet, July 1, no. 3

$545.00

Le Tholonet is a town outside of Aix-en-Provence by about 20 minutes; one might call it an Aixoise suburb. Cezanne himself once lived in le Tholonet and painted many masterpieces there, and it has a lively restaurant next to the pétanque terrains. A little farther past the pétanque are lavender fields, and, lucky me, the gorgeous purple flowers hadn’t been cut yet. I woke early and went to the fields two mornings in a row to paint, catching the fields just before they were harvested. For this painting, the last of the ones I made this summer in the fields (but not the last ones ever!), I sat right in the middle of the rows to paint and felt like I was a lavender flower myself.

This painting is part of Summer in le Sud (“luh sood”, a French word meaning “the south of France”), a series of paintings and watercolors made en plein air (outside, from life) as an artist-in-residence with the Leo Marchutz School.

Original watercolor on paper. This painting comes professionally framed with UV-protective glass in a lovely pale green lacquer which happens to rather perfectly match the greens in the painting (the photo doesn’t do it justice, trust me… but also I can take more photos of the piece with the frame if you’d like to see!). The overall size when framed is approx 15”x19”.

Free local delivery for addresses around NYC and near Charlottesville, Richmond, and Williamsburg, VA; this is automatically done at checkout. Otherwise, a $20 shipping and handling fee will be applied at checkout.

Merci for choosing to have a piece of my summertime on your walls!
