Fête de la Musique, June 21
Fête de la Musique, June 21
Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience!
This watercolor, and the one painted right after it, were made on my first night in Aix this year, during la Fête de la Musique (Music Festival). All across France, cities and towns are taken over with musicians, either on big stages or just playing a little something on the corner. I had been walking through the streets for a while and turned the corner to hear this great band playing great songs that I knew by heart; I found a spot behind them and painted both the band and the crowd listening.
This is an original watercolor on paper, size 11" x 14" unframed.
Professional framing available for an additional fee, to be coordinated via email if so desired. Please allow 2-3 weeks additional for framed orders.
