Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: I had painted these lavender fields a couple of times in oil and wanted to paint it in watercolor. The fields felt so big to me that I needed to double the size of a typical watercolor, as you can see.

This is an original watercolor on paper and comes unframed. The overall size is 14” x 22”; it is a diptych, meaning that it’s made of two pieces of paper put together as one, meant to stay together as shown in the image.
