Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: la place des Prêcheurs is home to a gorgeous church where Cézanne was married and is a popular gathering place for the locals. I’ve drawn and painted here many times over the years; this is one of those times.

This is an original watercolor on paper, size 11" x 14" unframed.
