Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: this beach was full of locals on this day—and, I’m guessing, most every day—and I found a spot up above where I could paint the bustling scene below. And then I painted it again! This is the second painting that I made that day.

This is an original watercolor on paper, size 14" x 11" unframed.
