Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: I went on a self-guided Van Gogh tour, finding his motifs and making a few paintings too. This is one from Arles at the hospital where Van Gogh was treated after he cut his ear. He made a painting from the same spot as this one; quite special to be painting in the footsteps of the masters.

This is an original watercolor on paper, size 7" x 11" unframed.
