Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: Cassis was one of the first places I painted outside of Aix when I was 25 and learning to paint for the first time. Now I return many, many times each summer, but rarely go into town; this particular day I went in, got myself a sandwich, and painted the bustling view of town.

This is an original watercolor on paper, size 19" x 15", framed in a cobalt lacquer frame.
