Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: le Tholonet is a small town outside of Aix-en-Provence where Cézanne frequently painted, and the lavender fields there are right off of the road. It’s an incredible view of vibrant purple as you turn the corner, and I love setting up to paint there in the mornings. I painted this piece one morning and made another the following day.

This is an original oil painting on canvas, size 17” x 21”, and framed in a natural wood floating frame.
