Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: Lac de la Bonde is a manmade lake that is the most beautiful turquoise in the morning. The school goes on an excursion there every summer, and I paint the same spot, this crooked tree (“my” crooked tree), year after year.

This is an original oil painting on canvas, size 17” x 21”, and framed in a natural wood floating frame.
