La Montagne Sainte-Victoire from le Tholonet, afternoon, July 9
Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience!
Some backstory on this painting: Mont Sainte Victoire is the pride of Aix-en-Provence and was painted dozens of times by Cézanne. This particular view is one where he also would have painted from; quite humbling to paint in the same place. I painted this one in the afternoon after painting another in the morning.
This is an original oil painting on canvas, size 17” x 21”, and framed in a natural wood floating frame.
