Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: the sky on this evening in Cassis was a once-in-a-lifetime sky. Stormy and hazy and the light came through at just the right time. The colors in the sky reflected into the water; I’ve never see anything like it and couldn’t help but make one painting after the other. This was the second painting I made that night, as the light was escaping. Thrilling!

This is an original oil painting on canvas, size 13” × 17”, and framed in a natural wood floating frame.
