Bonjour from Provence! This painting was made during an artist residency in the south of France this summer (2026) with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing, my fourth summer painting in the landscape and by the Mediterranean. I painted this from life, "en plein air," as the French say; no photo references, simply looking at the subject while painting it. A challenging, exhilarating experience! 

Some backstory on this painting: I’d come to this local beach one evening a few days before and decided to spend the entire day there on this Fourth of July (which, naturally, isn’t celebrated in France!). I made this painting in the morning, looking down on the beach from above.

This is an original oil painting on canvas, size 21” × 33”. It is a diptych, meaning that it is two canvases put together to act as one. The two canvases are framed together in one natural wood floating frame.
